A full review of the Canyon XT is in the pipeline… In the meantime, you may find this information useful.
The Thule Canyon cargo basket (model no 859) was the initial replacement for the Thule M.O.A.B. This itself has now been replaced with the updated model Canyon XT (model no 859XT).
According to Thule, the only difference between the two models is the point of attachment between the front and back, enabling the XT to fit into a smaller box for shipping! So the good news is, there’s no particular advantage in upgrading from one to the other.
There is one thing to be aware of, though, if you’re planning to buy an extension for your Canyon or Canyon XT. . .
IMPORTANT: If you want to purchase an extension to increase the size of the Canyon basket, be sure to get the right version, as they are not interchangeable. For the original Thule Canyon, you’ll need the extension 8591. For the newer Canyon XT, you’ll need the extension 8591XT.
